This Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda was first delivered on March 21, 1968, through the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Aachen, Germany. Today, the roadster is presented in the elegant color combination of Silver Grey Metallic with a blue leather interior and a blue soft top. The car is equipped with the highly desirable 4-speed manual transmission.
From the factory, the Pagoda was originally delivered in the rare combination of Medium Blue Metallic with a Papyrus White hardtop and blue leather upholstery. The original hardtop is still included with the car today, although it is in need of restoration.
Period-correct equipment includes a Becker Europa radio with automatic antenna, lap belts, headrests, and a removable wind deflector. In addition, the original owner's manual and service booklet have been preserved.
The car was exported to the United States early in its life and was imported back to Germany in 1993. Since then, it has had only three German owners, some of whom were members of the Pagoden Club Deutschland.
Following its return to Germany, the Pagoda underwent extensive mechanical refurbishment. Numerous invoices and supporting documents record the work carried out. In 2003, the rear axle was overhauled by Mercedes-Benz. In 2004, at approximately 57,000 km reading mileage, the engine received a rebuild by Motoren Sauer. The corresponding installation certificate and documented break-in inspection are included.
